How to Care for Weft Hair Extensions While in Quarantine

The pandemic, quarantine, and continually staying at home can take a toll on your weft hair extensions. When you’re used to visiting your favourite hair salon for hair extension maintenance or re-applications, you may be tempted to do some DIY on your hair extensions. No matter how long quarantine lasts, your hair extensions should be removed or re-applied only by expert and professional salon hairstylists (such as those at Hair Candy). These hair professionals are all certified and licensed.

So, while being stuck in quarantine, here are the things you can do to care for your weft hair extensions

Brushing

You need to keep gently brushing your hair and the extensions. It is recommended that you use a wet brush. If you don’t have one, you can use whatever brush is available. The wet brush is highly recommended because the bristles are sturdy enough to remove tangles, but gentle enough to flex at extension attachments. Brush your hair multiple times in a day. Do the opposite and start at the ends of your hair, using short strokes, and work your way up to the scalp.

Dry Shampoo

Hair extensions are susceptible to pulling and damage during a wash. Since you don’t leave the house for long periods, you can go longer between washes. When applying the dry shampoo, lift your hair in sections and spray on the base of the scalp, near the panels. After applying, thoroughly brush gently to distribute the shampoo.

Blow Drying

Always cold blow-dry or use low heat since it’s better for the tapes and bonds. Dry fully the connections where your hair meets the extension. It’s important to keep the roots bone dry, so don’t dry them naturally. Damp extensions are susceptible to breaking.

Nourish

Hair extensions can get very dry. You need to keep them silky smooth by using serum and adding leave-in conditioner to the ends of your hair before blow-drying to keep the hair nourished.
